We have just over 230 miles to cover today to reach Marathon in the Keys. Our drive was very easy using the Florida Turn-Pike, even though we went through at least 4 tolls. Once we by-passed Homestead we hooked up on US 1 for it was about an hour drive (45 mph mostly)to the campground called Jolly Roger. Located at MM 59.5. Most everything is identified by a mile marker in the Keys.

Just two happy people! |
Our plan was to cook alot at the camper for dinner...but that hasn't happened yet. To many neat places mostly on the water, to dine at. We have though ate most breakfasts at the camper and packed lunches for our outing when we go to the beach. I know there is no way I could fix seafood to Buddy's liking and that's about his diet these days. I'm suffuring with having to eat shrimp, steak, lobster, crab, jamaican chicken, pasta, sliders....all my favorites....poor me!
Our first thing on the adgenda....like we really have one...was to see where the beaches were. We had always thought and been told there were not any to speak of, but just ask some locals and you'll find whatever your looking for and get a local map.
Our first beach day was at Sombrero around mile marker 50. It was a beautiful sunny day around 80 and the only draw back was they were adding sand most of the time we were there. Didn't matter....the water was so clear and fairly warm. I'm working on the 3rd book while I'm soaking up the sunshine.
Fishing dock at the Campground - right in our view Most evenings the crowd gathers here for the sunsets |

It's been nice just hanging out on the campsite....visited the pool yesterday and finished my book. Will visit the campground library for a new one. We have had several dining outings at a place called Island Fish Company another place on the Gulf. It's located at MM 54 and has an extensive menu, of course, fresh seafood.
Last night we had a small thunderstorm come through and the winds are high today. Guess no airplace or boat rides in the forcast. Humm....what will we get into today!
Buddy attracts all kinds! |

RESTAURANTS WE VISITED
MM 53.5 Oceanside - Cabana Breezes is tucked away in the Key Colony Community amoung several hotels. The place was packed but mananged to get a great sit on deck near band without waiting. Fun atmosphere and good varity on menu. Small pier just off bar area.
MM 53 Oceanside - Dockside Bar and Grille - At marina tucked back off the beaten path. A local hangout with music in evening. We had lunch here after out beach time. Small kitchen but food okay for what it was.
MM 54 Bayside - Island Fish Company - Had Breakfast and Dinner here several times. Large dining areas. Extensive menu and good food.
MM 49 Bayside - Key Fisheries - A hoppin place. Tiki Bar separate from dock restaurant. Mostly stone crabs (because they are in season), and fresh fish.
MM 47 Oceanside - Lazy Days South - Not as casual as most restaurants but an awesome sunset, they say. Missed it by a few minutues due to a wreck on the highway. Buddy enjoyed the food (seafood) but I had an okay veggie pasta dish.
MM 53.5 Oceanside - Sparky's Landing - New I had been here before, just didn't know if this was the one I had been too. Ran up on it while visiting the Dockside Bar. A quick stop for a beer at the marina.
MM 47 Oceanside - Sunset Grille and Raw Bar.....wow, a busy place. Probably the most popular, because they have a pool to dine around, live music, 3 bars, and the food was good.
MM 59 Bayside - Closet bar/grille to our campground. Had dinner their our first night. Small place, food okay. No view of water just highway.
