Melbourne Bound

At bit of a cool morning with light rain as we pack up and head out for a short distance to Melbourne Beach, Florida. We are staying at the Melbourne Outdoor Resorts Community right on A1A. This is a beautiful resort with mostly full time residents in mobile homes and some class A Coach's. We have 3 pools and I saw least 3 tennis courts. Our access to the beach is private and we have another pool on the ocean side. All the grounds are well maintained and landscaped. After our set up we drove over to the Eau Gallie Bridge and had a late lunch at Squid Lips. Probably the best food so far and another fantastic view right on the Indian River.
This traveling is really taking a toll on me....slept 12 hours last night. That's okay because the weather for today was mostly cloudy and rainy. It was a good day for paper work and organizing before we took a brief break to the post office, drug store and lunch at a neat place called Sands on the Beach - a typical tiki kind of place on the beach. My kind of place. A beautiful Thursday morning and weather expected to reach in the low 70s....so it's beach time.

One of Three pools at Outdoor Resorts - heated also!

Yep...if you don't see any foot prints....look behind you, cause your the only one there!

St. Augustine

Today we leave Hilton Head and head to St. Augustine for a few days. A quick jump over to I-95 and around 200 miles we arrive at North Beach Camp Resort. What a neat place.....the Tolomato River on one side and the Atlantic on the other. At the campground we have a private entrance to the beach and two restaurants within walking distance.

With only one full day to see St. Augustine we started out at a 5:30 am wakeup in hopes of seeing the sunrise. A little overcast but a pretty site anyway.

North Beach Campground Store and Check-In

Our first stop in town was to see the St. Augustine Lighthouse and the boat builders that were there today.
Next onto the Fountain of Youth and more history on the expedition of Juan Ponce de Leon.

Ponce de Leon's Legendary Spring
It really makes you think when you are standing on the first colony site that dates back to 1565.

El Galon Ship was our next visit....this actually sails and was used recently by NBC for a make of a movie.

A beautiful sunset at Aunt Katie's Restaurant in the Camp Ground....wonderful fun and food. Off to our next stop tomorrow in Melbourne.

more to do....

Had an early dinner with Ernie at the Boat House Restaurant but couldn't talk him into a night out dancing. We visited the Hilton Head's Shag club at the Riptide Lounge. It's been awhile since we have been able to go shag dancing. Buddy was having some trouble with his hip hurting, but the dancing didn't seem to slow him down. An enjoyable evening. Some site seeing today to the Beach Club in Sea Pines and the Omni Hotel in Palmetto Dunes. The beach club was under renovations with expected re-opening date this summer. It was a little to cold be be hanging at the beach so we headed over to Harbour Town for snacks before going over to South Beach for the oyster roast and music on the deck of the Salty Dog.

After a brief nap we went over to the Electric Piano Lounge for more music and dancing. Haven't stayed up that late since New Years. Fun night and meet a couple there who was actually our neighbors at the RV Resort.

The time has come!

Hilton Head Harbor RV Resort & Marina
It's time to hit the road again and head for much warmer weather (we hope) in Florida. This trip we will be jumping around the state with our first stop not to far....Hilton Head. Got a late start on February 20 but arrived on the island right at sunset. A quick set up at a beautiful site at Hilton Head RV Resort and Marine before we dashed off to our favorite restaurant, Hudsons. We got a water front site for 3 nights here and it's pretty quite. Woke up early and enjoyed my coffee overlooking the marina. Was able to talk Buddy into a stroll around the park. He did very well, but I pushed on to get a more vigorous walk in. Thunderstorms are in the forecast for the early afternoon, so we scurried off for breakfast at the south end of the island. The Sunshine Cafe has the best Mimosa's. We headed back to the park for a little nap before we're off tonight for dinner and dancing.
